The "It is too hot outside" in D.C. Guide but i want to be outside

  • Visit Rock Creek Park or the Arboretum for shade. Note--bring water though! Kenilworth & the Mall are nice but it's not shady at all! Kayaking is fun, but it's a lot of sun!

  • Window Shop & enjoy the A/C in NOMA, Barracks Row, Takoma, Georgetown, Penn Quarter, the Wharf, or Columbia Heights

  • Get boozy with frozen cocktails at Suburbia (NOMA), Electric Cool Aid (Shaw) which has 6 frozens on tap, or Tiki on 18th (Adams Morgan)

  • There are 21 public pools operating this summer in D.C. Residents go for free or $7 for non-residents

  • Not into pools? There's 33 spray parks not including water features in Navy Yard

  • Get Italian Ice at Rita's or Hawaiian Ice at Tiki Taco.

  • Or get ice cream from local Ice Cream Jubilee, Mt. Desert, Southwest Soda Pop Shop, or Lulabelle's.

The "It is too hot outside" in D.C. Guide but i want to be inside

  • Go watch a movie! Yes, movie theaters are open!

  • Do an in-person craft workshop at All Fired Up!, Shop Made in D.C., or Femme Fatale

  • Take the metro to Virginia (gasp) and go window shopping at Tysons Corner or Pentagon City

  • Can't get a timed pass anywhere? The National Gallery of Art & National Building Museum has tons of passes! Philipps Collection has walk-in passes each hour & Planet Word every half hour.

  • Enjoy indoor golf at Swingers -- it is very much worth the price IMO! Try their frozen margarita!

  • Take the MARC Train from Union Station to the National Aquarium in Baltimore. (Tip: discount on Friday nights)
